Sorrento at Christmas
If you are regular reader, you will recall that I gave Sorrento a "second chance" this last fall and was quite pleased. She had not wowed me the first visit, which I think was more the terms of the visit (Monday; closed stores and restaurants; rain, etc.) and not Amalfi Coast city personally.
Rumor had it that Christmas was a wonderful time of year to visit the Amalfi Coast town. It certainly was!
Piazza Tasso greeted us with a GIANT lighted tree (once the sun set), that was elegant and gorgeous. All the streets were lined with over-head twinkle lights, and many windows and balconies were drapped in holiday decorations. Extra booths and stalls were set about all over the city, selling speciality foods and items, and perfect for Christmas shopping. The holiday spirit was more than alive, and greatly appreciated.
The kids were promised a ride on the white train, and it proved entertaining for us all. The train wound up and down the old stone roads that led to the water, and we were able to see parts of Sorrento that had escaped us on previous visits. Individual ear plugs in your language of choice narrated a history of the area intermixed with famous Neopolitan songs like "O Sole Mio." (Click here to hear Luciano Pavarotti sing the famous 1898 song.)
I'm so glad we were able to slip in another Sorrento visit during the holidays, even given the rain. (Once again!)

I'm glad you enjoyed Sorrento more the second time around! Your pictures make me want to hop on a ferry and go there myself!
Thanks for stopping by my blog too. It's always nice to "meet" another American in Italy!
